Honoring the Law of Order
by Muriel Moton
One of the best ways to make progress in the shortest amount of time is to become focused and organized with a purpose. Being unorganized while trying to make progress can be compared to a dog who chases his own tail. He's in constant motion just to end up tired, frustrated and dizzy.
So, how important is order? It's very important. So much so that God did not begin creating the world until He planned its purpose and order. In other words, purpose must be known before proper order can be established. When purpose is not clear, how to structure proper order becomes a guessing game.
This guessing game often creates the illusion that you can take on more than you are capable, or your lack of order is not impeding your progress or that you lack proper order at all. And what makes it worse is defending your disorder to actually be a form of order keeps you stuck in a cycle of disarray and chaos.
There have been times when I pretended I was getting organized when in essence I was recycling disarray. In other words, I just shifted the order of how my disorder was going to prevail. I had created an illusion. I did not take the time to establish purpose as a prerequisite for creating proper order. Knowing what to say yes to and what to say no to was not a consideration either. I kept taking on more as the requests for doing more kept coming. The reward I received was more stress, increased frustrations and all the dilemmas that accompany an overwhelmed and unbalanced life.
When I faced the fact that remaining the same was too great of a pain, I began spring cleaning my life. I began to honor the law of order. As a result, a gateway of blessings began to flow into my life. Also, for the first time I began to experience a more peaceful life. Something I had a yearning for was now becoming part of my daily living.
So how can you begin to honor the law of order? There are five steps you can take to begin to bring order to any area of your life.
Step 1: Assess your situation: Be honest about every aspect of your life. This could mean that a piece of humble pie and a teaspoon of courage may be necessary if fear, ego, pride or just plain stubbornness is the reason you have been turning your back on your personal truth.
Step 2 : Create a holistic plan that supports your life's purpose. Unless you are clear about your purpose, your objectives and the action steps to how you will get there will be at best a guessing game. It's like playing Russian roulette with your life. It becomes a game of chance where there odds are you will cycle through many regrets while confusion and disorder becomes your life's theme.
Creating a holistic plan that supports your life's purpose provides the framework for setting boundaries and becoming focused. It helps you know what you should say yes to and what to say no to. It compels you to become protective over your life and the decisions that shape it. And, it builds your resilience to have something to hold on to when times get tough.
Step 3: Be reasonable. Learn how to discover and respect your capacity for how much you can take on before your life's balance becomes threatened or extinct. Honoring the law of order does not protect you from the unexpected curves and events of life. It does, however, provide a focal point to return to when your life does take an unexpected turn. Be fair to yourself and find your personal balance.
Step 4: Create a written list or agenda of your short-term goals that support your long term objectives. Break your short-term goals into bite size pieces. This gives a greater sense of accomplishment when you are able to scratch off action items from your list. It also inspires you to continue your path towards order and balance. Being able to monitor your progress through action items you have completed promotes focus and success.
Step 5: Take one step at a time. Trying to organize every aspect of your life with the same degree of aggression can become overwhelming and paralyzing. Some areas of your life will be easier to bring into order than others. Also, there will be some areas that are more critical to bring into order more so than other areas. That's okay. Just devote a measure of creating order to every area of your life daily no matter how small it may seem.
If you want to have progress with greater ease, begin to honor the Law of Order. Allow your decisions and actions to be governed with purpose and experience the difference.
