Determination can be learnt and can acquired in a Globalized World

by Laz Mbulo

In pre-transportation era, distance was a major challenge to reaching out to opportunities that lay beyond reach. In modern times, nothing is so far off as long as you have the resources to pay for your way to the location where the opportunities lay. Pre-modern transportation era barrier has shifted from being physical to being a mental block? Many a times, we may sit back and refuse to chase or follow our dreams because the resources or opportunities we need seem to be far beyond our reach. We worry about the differences in culture, economic conditions, political situations and environmental conditions. We close ourselves off and suspiciously look at anyone from far and yonder wondering why they are coming into our hood. We think they have come to take what we think rightly belong to us.

If we come to think of it, that is a lot of energy that is wasted in fighting and hustling over our new neighbors from far and yonder. In this modern world, we look far and yonder to see where opportunities are. People coming to our neighborhood from far and yonder may have found opportunities in our location. What we need to do is to look at how well these people adapt to our environment, learn how these people can survive in a new environment and learn from their determination to succeed. Many people who have gone beyond their immediate borders have worked hard to succeed in what they do. That determination can be seen in their eyes and in their action as they go by getting the necessities important to their survival. This determination is something you may want to learn from those from other places.

It is not a whole strange characteristic; it is a determination that is driven by the desire to succeed and to lead a far better life than left behind. Who doesn't want to live a better life after all? If we all want to live a better life, we can look at our new neighbors, learn from them about determination. Observe how they go about mastering the new system and how they adapt to the new environment. Observe their work ethics and performance. And with time we will see how these people succeed and from that we can also be able pull up our efforts in what ever we do.

There are a lot of opportunities for people to get out of their environment and explore opportunities that may be waiting to be exploited in other places. With renewed determination and the desire to succeed in a new environment you begin to realize your dreams in a place that at first may have seemed far and beyond your reach. You begin to appreciate other cultures and in the process you begin to contribute to the efficient flow and use of all the resources abound in the world. You will begin to contribute to making this world a better place to live as we put our potential to work in all areas of human life with the best people doing the best job with no mental blocks about distant places. If you feel stuck in what you are doing or need some push, you might want to look up opportunities in far and beyond places or you might want to learn from your new neighbor from far and beyond about determination - it cost nothing but it rewards a whole lot in a world that has become highly interdependent.
