The Trick to Unlearning Bad Habits

by Gerri D Smith

Some things can be done in a hurry, some in pieces, some all at once, some in stages, and some not at all. It is up to us to fit the process to the task.Quote by, Ann Wilson Schaef

To benefit from using the Law of Attraction that states: "You attract more of what you focus on," try to focus your thoughts on the opposite of what you've always done. To break yourself of bad habits and negative behaviors, practice focusing on what you do want. Some examples include:

* Replace anger and resentment with a positive, forgiving attitude.

* If you find yourself talking too much and not listening to the other person, focus on beingsilent for at least 20 seconds and make sure the other person has completed voicing theirthoughts before speaking yours.

* In learning a new skill, focus on the outcome you wish to reach, and not on how difficultthe learning process may be.

* Focus on what you wish to become (slimmer, eating healthier foods, walking more andsitting less), and not on what you are today.

* Be grateful for what you have, rather than be upset for what you don't have.

No one always gets what they want in life. The trick is not to get upset, or let your thinking become paralyzed. This is a self-imposed habit. Only by recognizing what causes you to become upset can you learn from it and fix it.

By choosing to fix a habit of getting upset, try to develop a strong mind-set that allows you to see a positive result. Become aware of the little and big things in life that causes you to react negatively. Then create a set of guidelines that will help you to size up certain situations based on past unfavorable experiences.

Being able to size up recurring situations is easy when you stay alert to the kinds of words and phrases that make up your thoughts. If your thoughts are upsetting, most times you are being warned that an unfavorable habit is about to be formed.

ADD SOMETHING FROM LAW OF ATTRACTION..........
Unlearning self-imposed habits includes the following four steps:

* Being aware of repetitious actions that are harmful to your well being.

* Learning a new set of expectations, behaviors, and attitudes.

* Creating a set of values that enable you to know when negative actions have become a bad habit.

* Assessing your needs and taking action for what you wish to accomplish without upsetting yourself.

Your life may just get better when you invest in its success and not its failure.

Pay close attention to your words, thoughts, and feelings. When you decide that your happiness is worth winning, you will not accept the thought of losing. Let your thoughts and attitudes lead you to become what you expect. And in doing so, never underestimate your ability.

To achieve any degree of success, think of your mind as your garden. Whatever you plant in it, the same things grow in your life. If you plant positive, hopeful thoughts, constantly feeding and nourishing them, your life will be positive and confident. Bad habits, like weeds, won't have a chance to grow. Plant thoughts of wellness and prosperity in your life, and you'll always create ways to reach those goals.

It's never too late to unlearn a bad habit.
