How to Find That "One Thing" That You Were Meant to Become

by Chris Bell

Everyone has certain desires and pursuits in life such as security, fame, fortune, etc. When moved to a higher degree of self awareness, what is the "one thing" that motivates you? The "one thing" that removes life's daily distractions from your mind and automates your focus to a higher purpose. For most, this automation of focus is achieved by accident. For the wisdom of purpose is to know the "one thing" you were meant to become.

I will use the scene from the movie City Slickers to make my point. Billy Crystal's character, Mitch, is riding on the prairie alone with Curly, played by Jack Palance. Curly offers Mitch some life advice.

Curly: Do you know what the secret of life is?[holds up one finger] This.

Mitch: Your finger?

Curly: One thing. Just one thing. You stick to that and the rest don't mean "anything".

Mitch: But, what is the "one thing?"

Curly: That's what you have to find out.

Do you know "one thing" you were meant to become or do you just go with the flow? Alarm clock. Breakfast. Drive to work. Work. Lunch. Drive home. Dinner. Bed. Alarm clock. When you look back over your life at any given point will you have a sense of accomplishment or feel greatly disappointed that time and opportunity has passed you by?

It is never too late to know your "one thing". With that said, do not procrastinate. Start your journey of success today.

Some points to assist you in achieving your plan.

One, you must be committed to finding your "one thing." A well planned life purpose is the most important element of your life.

Second, what are your strengths, talents and unique qualities? Dig deep on this one. If, you could do one thing in life what would it be?

Thirdly, what beliefs and values guide your life? Are you making decisions pertaining to your life in a happenstance way or do you make decisions about your life based upon concretely solid beliefs and values?

Further work and self discovery will be necessary to discover the "one thing" you were meant to become. The three steps above will point you in the right direction.

As the doors before you open you may consider working with a professional coach who will help you discover your true purpose in life.

I wish you Godspeed in your journey.
