How to Get More Out of Life
by Sonny Julius
Are you interested in getting more out of life or are you just set on auto pilot every day? I mean do you drift from day to day doing the same old things day in and day out.
Now I understand if you are still employed there is a routine you are on every day. You usually have to be at the same place everyday performing the same task. But the question is how do you like that? Do you love your job or do you hate it.
Are you getting as much out of life as you want? Is it exciting fun, challenging and profitable? What's your future look like as for as you can tell right now?
How about those of you who are now retired? Have you gotten more out of life since you retired than ever before? One of my friends told me before he retired what he planned to do. Can you guess what he said? "I'm going to sit around and do nothing."
I responded by saying, "That doesn't like a smart thing to do after being such an active person, why not get involved in something you always wanted to do but couldn't do because of your work obligations"?
The sad story is this man died of an illness not too long after he retired. My wife and I use to associate with him and his wife at many events. They were both lively and fun to be around. But after retirement he literally shut down his body and his attitude.
To get more out of life you need to work on it. You need to have a well-defined plan and initiate action to accomplish what you desire in life.
I learned how to do that when I became dissatisfied with my job. As a floral designer starting out in my family's florist business I loved my job. However after about 20 years doing it I became very dissatisfied with it.
I wasn't really sure about what I did want to do. I just knew I didn't like my job in the family business. Then one day I was fortunate enough to meet a person who got me thinking how to get more out of life.
He was a sales representative for Nightingale Conant that sold self improvement programs. His presentation really impressed me and I was anxious to buy his cassette program.
However the price of the program was more than I felt I could afford. After a lengthy discussion he decided I could pay for it in installments and so I agreed to buy it.
The power of listening to each of the cassettes in the program was mind boggling. Along with a goals planner that was part of the program I really got excited about my future.
I began to believe I wanted a future in becoming a salesman. And I related that to Ron, the sales rep of the program. So he made me an offer to become one of his salesmen and to train me and make sales calls with him.
That really sounded great so I made an offer to my Dad to work only part time and spend the other time trying to sell the program. He didn't like that idea but finally agreed to it.
After a few months working with Ron and I began to get very frustrated and disgusted that I hadn't made one sale. I finally told Ron I was giving up the idea of selling the program and decided I was going back to my job in the family business.
The good thing was that I was listening to the program everyday and working on the goal planner too. Since I was continuing to pay for the program Ron was willing to coach me.
One day when I finally decided I wanted a career in sales I placed an ad in the local newspaper for a sales position. I don't know now how long it was before I got a response for a job that looked promising. But finally I did see one that interested me.
I made the call, got an interview set up and went to meet the person offering the position. I'll never forgot how pleasant and exciting it was when I met Charlie and he finally offered me the position to work for his company that evening.
Eventually I spent 20 years working for this company as a sales rep and finally as a sales supervisor of a sales force. It was the most exciting years I have ever spent in my life. I could finally say, "I love my job".
The self-development program I purchased was definitely he key that taught me how to get more out of life. I shared much of my knowledge from the program with my sales force and three of them became top earners in the company.
I continued to use that program as well as other programs to achieve all my goals to this very day. Would you like to learn how to get more out of life too? Go to www.sonnyjulius.homestead.com for additional information
